Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Services

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a method of obtaining images of a patient’s anatomy without using ionizing radiation. The MRI procedure is considered indispensable by many physicians, especially for the evaluation of sports-related injuries and for the diagnosis of chronic disease conditions. MRI technology uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to provide pictures of blood vessels inside the body. In many cases, MRI exams provide information that cannot be obtained from other imaging techniques.

State-of-the-Art Technology

Mesquite Diagnostics features a Philips Intera 1.5 Telsa ultra-short bore MRI system.   This is the newest generation in high field-strength MRI scanners, and is the best in its class worldwide.   The Philips Intera combines extrememly powerful imaging capabilities with the greatest concern for patient comfort, creating sharper images for better results and features.  Equipment features:

  • An ultra-short scanning area that minimizes patients’ feelings of immersion and alleviates anxiety
  • A  large, flared opening that promotes an airy feeling and more easily accommodates patients with a weight capacity of up to 450 pounds
  • Exceptionllay fast scanning speed that minimizes the patient's time in the MRI, creating better results and higher patient satisfaction.

For enhanced patient comfort and relaxation, you might consider bringing your favorite CD to listen to during MRI/MRA exams.

Since the MRI uses a strong magnetic field, we will ask you to remove any metal objects prior to the exam such as jewelry, eye glasses and clothes with zippers, buttons and wires. In most cases, an MRI exam is safe for patients with metal implants, however, those with the following implants cannot be scanned and should not enter the MRI area:

  • Internal (implanted) defibrillator
  • Cochlear (ear) implant
  • Clips used on brain aneurysms

You should tell the technologist if you have medical or electronic devices in your body, because they may interfere with the exam or potentially pose a risk. Examples include: artificial heart valves, implanted drug infusion ports, infusion catheter intrauterine device (IUD), implanted electronic device, including a cardiac pacemaker, artificial limbs or metallic joint prostheses, implanted nerve stimulators, metal pins, screws, plates or surgical staples.
